Lucknow: Thieves in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh dug a 10-foot-long and 4-foot-wide tunnel to reach the lockers section of a bank and escaped by stealing gold easily. According to Indian media, in the city of Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh, thieves have committed a film-style robbery, which surprised the police and bank staff.
When the bank manager reached the office, as usual, he found the lockers open, the locks are broken and 1.8 kg gold worth Rs 1 crore missing. The police were called immediately.
Police said the thieves dug a 10-foot-long and 4-foot-wide tunnel from a vacant plot adjacent to the bank and reached the lockers and cleared them. The thieves also tried to break the cash lockers but failed, which contained Rs 32 lakh.
The bank manager said in his statement that these ornaments belonged to 29 citizens who had deposited gold to take a loan from the bank.
